Maxi Cosi Mico Infant Car Seat
|
Even before taking your babies home from hospital, car seats are an absolute must and vital to your babies’ safety.
Infant car seats not only protect your baby in the car, they allow you to carry your baby between the house and the car (and elsewhere) easily, even during naptime. There's quite a bit of difference between infant car seat models on the market today, so take a look at the following considerations to be sure you get the right infant car seat for your baby and your vehicle.
- 5-Point Harness: Look for an infant car seat with a five-point harness, with straps that go over baby's shoulders and hips. The extra harnessing protects baby much better, particularly in side- impact crashes.
- Weight and Height Limits: Be sure to check the weight limit on any infant car seat you're considering. Most infant car seats will accommodate a baby up to 20 pounds, but some infant car seats have a slightly higher weight limit, which can extend the useable life of the car seat. Pay attention to the height limit and watch your baby carefully in the infant car seat, as it is outgrown by height when the top of baby's head is within an inch of the top of the shell. (Remember to consider size of preemies. Look for seats that have a lower weight requirement such as 4-5lbs).
- Head and Side Impact Protection: Look for EPS (Expanded Polystyrene) Foam, the same material found in bicycle helmets.

There are so many styles and options available on baby cribs today, making the purchase for a perfect baby crib a daunting task. Determine your price range and decide which baby crib features are most important to you. If costs are an issue, consider using one crib or a playpen while the babies are still infants until signs point to the need for an additional crib.
A safe crib should have a firm, tight-fitting mattress, no missing/broken hardware or slats and no cut-outs in the head or foot boards. Slats should be no more than 2 3/8" apart (about the size of a pop can). Corner posts should not be higher than 1/16".
Before buying any diaper changing table, look carefully at the construction and shake it to see if it's wobbly, uneven or otherwise unsafe for baby. Also, if there's a rail to help keep baby on the changing table, be sure it's securely attached.
Most importantly, remember to keep an eye on baby products recalls, including cribs, as some may be found to be unsafe or have unsafe parts.
